BLACKBURN REACTIONS

Keane:

“We didn't do enough in the second half. We sat back and
Blackburn took advantage. We are disappointed with that - we
probably took our foot off the gas which is unacceptable.”

Asked how close United are to hitting top form, Keano said:

“After that second half performance, a long way yet.”

Fergie:

“In the first half we were superb. We then had some good
chances to make it 3-0 and we lost a goal and were
scrambling for home, which is disappointing on our part.
It's a funny game football, a goal changes the game. I think
the first goal was a nice one-two with good play from Ruud
and Quinton Fortune but that second goal was superb.”

Ferguson also had praise for Brazilian midfielder Kleberson:

"Kleberson has been doing really well in training and this
game was an ideal opportunity for him. It was an excellent
performance and he showed what a wonderful footballer he
is."

At least Ruud was happy:

“In the first half I think we did very well, we were the
better team and deserved to be 2-0 up. At half time we said
we wanted to do what we did in the first half but it didn't
work out. It's fantastic to qualify with Holland and to play
a game like this and score a goal is great. A few of the
players played on Wednesday so it was a hard game for us
today, that's why three points are great. Now we have a few
days to rest.”

Graeme Souness:

“We are conceding daft goals. The first goal today was not a
great goal - we've been doing that all season and that's why
we find ourselves in the position we do. In the first half
we didn't have enough people who believe we could come here
and get a result but in the second we did. The damage had
been done in that first half. In the second half it was a
case of make sure when you come off the pitch you can look
in the mirror and say you've given 100 per cent.”

Souness felt that Blackburn were unlucky to see Yorke’s
effort disallowed for offside:

“Dwight was not offside, Garry Flitcroft was but I've seen
goals given like that. When things are not happening for
you, you don't get these kind of decisions. On another day
you get that decision going for you. But you can't feel
sorry for yourself, you've just got to get on with it.”
