Borussia Dortmund planning to offer Erling Haaland historic new contract

Borussia Dortmund hope to make Erling Haaland the highest-paid player in the club's history with a bumper new contract which would keep him at the club beyond next summer.

Haaland's current deal still has three years left to run, but it also contains a release clause of under £70m which kicks in in 2022 - one that is guaranteed to be seen as a bargain by every major club on the planet.

There's no guarantee that Haaland will leave Dortmund next summer, but what's clear is the Bundesliga giants are facing immense pressure from the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona, all of whom are looking to pounce.

But Sport Bild claim that Dortmund are looking to spoil the fun by offering Haaland a record-breaking new contract, though they'll need a little help from lead sponsors PUMA to do so.

Coincidentally for Dortmund, Haaland's contract with Nike is set to expire in January 2022, so he'll be free to field offers and is expected to be targeted by PUMA, who want to give their link with Dortmund a boost by signing the club's superstar player.

PUMA, who own a 5% stake in Dortmund, have been speaking with agent Mino Raiola and Haaland's father, Alf-Inge, about the possibility of a deal, with €5m on the table across a five-year contract.

As part of PUMA's play to Haaland, Dortmund will also look to hand the 21-year-old a new contract worth nearly twice as much as the €8m (£6.8m) he earns annually now. A club-high €15m (£12.7m) is on offer, and Dortmund hope that will convince Haaland to stay at the club beyond next summer.

In contrast, Spanish publication AS state that is still likely to be less than Real Madrid plan to offer Haaland, and the Liga giants hope to convince him to join alongside Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, who is set to be available on a free transfer.

Los Blancos are planning a huge spending spree at the end of the season and have Haaland right at the top of their wish list, but the same can be said of United and Barcelona. Bayern Munich, PSG and pretty much every other superclub have been tipped to move for him as well.

Dortmund know they are facing an uphill battle to keep Haaland, but with the support of PUMA, they are prepared to do what they can to get a deal done.
