Bruno Fernandes heaps praise on 'nice guy' Fred

Bruno Fernandes has expressed his happiness that Manchester United teammate Fred is finally getting recognition for the hard work he puts in.

The Brazil midfielder scored the winner in a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Sunday in Ralf Rangnick's first game as interim manager.

United's players have clearly already bought into Rangnick's ideas, pressing Palace and creating a lot of chances, something which impressed key man Fernandes.

"Overall it was a good performance from everyone," Fernandes told Premier League Productions.

"We created a lot of chances and the result could be a little bit better for us, but we are happy because we got the three points."

Fred broke the deadlock with under 15 minutes remaining at Old Trafford, curling one into the top corner with his weaker right foot.

That was only his sixth goal for Man Utd in 137 appearances, and Fernandes commented that while this kind of strike from the Brazilian is a rare occurrence, the dressing room are happy for Fred.

"Fred has this kind of shot once per year," he added. "Everyone is happy for him because he’s such a nice guy and he’s one that works a lot and he's someone who most of the people don’t talk about. He deserves all the credit that he’s getting now."

Man Utd face Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, but can rest easy knowing that they have already secured their spot in the knockout stages as group winners.

Rangnick's Red Devils then return to Premier League action with trips to newly-promoted Norwich and Brentford as they look to ramp up their top-four charge.
