BUT HE STILL WANTS TO STAY

This tallies with RI's information (see recent editions of BackBeat) that Ruud wants to stay at Old Trafford. From the MEN:

Van Nistelrooy's departure from Old Trafford could be long and painful. The split between Sir Alex Ferguson and his 29-year-old striker might not be resolved until after the World Cup in July.

Fergie and Reds chief executive David Gill have had dialogue over the issue but van Nistelrooy is not expected to be slapped on the transfer list because it would reduce his £10m market value.

But the Dutchman is adamant he won't ask for a transfer following the bust-up that saw him being ordered home before Sunday's match with Charlton. Van Nistelrooy's agent Roger Linse has yet to be informed of the club's plans.

Van Nistelrooy has confirmed to M.E.N. Sport that he wanted to play in Roy Keane's testimonial against Celtic.

"I regret the fact that I was not at Roy Keane's testimonial last night," Ruud said.

"I wanted to be at Old Trafford for the match but not being there was not my decision. I wish it could have been different but it was not my choice."

Fergie had told him he wasn't welcome and instead he joined up early with Holland's World Cup squad.
