Gary Neville has already started to reflect on being club captain.

"One of the great honours for me is walking out in front of a team that has got Rooney, Ronaldo, van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand, Scholes and Giggs," he declared. "That is an incredible honour.

"When I look back in 30 years time, I can say I played with Robson and Cantona and I can also say I played with Rooney, Giggs, Scholes and van Nistelrooy.

"I have played with some of the greatest United players and I am still doing so."

What no mention of O'Shea and Fletch?
