CALL MY BLUFF

The MEN reorts that United may call Ferdinand's bluff by selling him before the start of the season. His refusal to sign a contract and his great relationship with the fans is said to have hit home with the management. It's also reported that by selling him it would release some money for Sir Alex to strengthen the squad.

However in an interview with MUTV Ferdinand has played down rumours of bad feeling within the squad: "A lot of people made a lot out of the fact that we came back to training early, saying we weren't happy, but that wasn't the case.

"If you are not successful, coming back to training early is part and parcel of being a footballer, and last season we didn't win anything. We can't afford a slow start with the standard at the top of the Premier League improving every season - last season Chelsea raised the bar and the year before Arsenal did it.

"There is no room for slip-ups and it's important we hit the ground running because we don't want to play catch-up.

"Our preparation has to be right and we feel we are getting it right this year, so we can mount a more serious challenge.

"We have done a lot of running and a lot of technical stuff, and now we can't wait for the season to start. We don't want to end another season without a trophy.

"This season could be even more competitive, with Liverpool possibly presenting a stronger challenge, with the confidence they will get from winning the European Cup."
