CARLOS THE SUCCESSOR

Fergie believes that Carlos Queiroz could be the next United boss. He said this while speaking to Portuguese magazine Visao.

"Can he be the next manager? Why not? He knows how to be one, he has experience, he is very bright, all that is needed,"

"There are many Portuguese people in football, but I have the best one here in Carlos Queiroz."

It was his work with youngsters that made Fergie believes he was right for United.

"I spoke to many people about him, people like Luis Figo. I knew about his work with Portugal's youth teams and that he was two-times world champion, as a coach, with the under-19 national teams.

"It needed someone with a good working capacity, technical knowledge, who could speak in various languages, had a European culture and was able to bridge the different nationalities. Queiroz is the perfect man for the job."

However Fergie isn't going to pack up just yet. He could be in charge for another 19 years!

"I could enjoy my profits and retire from football, but I still go to Carrington [United's training ground] every day and love the job," he added. "From time to time I ask myself: do I have the energy to continue? Then I see businessmen of 80-plus with lots of energy and I think: If they can still do it at 82 or 83, why shouldn't I be able to at 63?

"So I'm ready to continue for some time yet. We're building a new team, with some of the most talented players in the world and some young players who will be the future. So why should I retire?"

And on Portugal's finest he said:

"He's a great talent, two good feet, extraordinary technical ability, he works hard and, most importantly, he has a lot of speed. And there is another thing: he has courage. He doesn't show fear and he deals with the ball like a toy. With his ability, plus greater experience, he might not only become one of the best players in the world, but the best in the world."
