Carrick and Ferdinand Fuming

Linesman Simon Beck and the ref did not signal for a penalty after Steven Caulker floored Wayne Rooney in the box in what would have been a stone wall penalty to anyone else.

At the time United were a goal in front and scoring from the penalty spot would have almost certainly secured all three points for United, but instead, Tottenham scored deep into injury time for a share of the points.

After Ferguson had ranted at Sky Sports, Rio Ferdinand told MUTV: "One hundred per cent, it was a penalty. I can't believe he didn't give it. The linesman on that side didn't really help us at all during the second half. We're disappointed the referee didn't give what was a stonewall penalty."

Michael Carrick was also far from impressed with the officials, he added on the show:  "It was as clear a penalty as you're going to get. We're disappointed with that because it would have put us in a great position. Big decisions like that can change games and it did."
