United's Geordie born midfielder told the Sunday Mirror that United had just been far to good on the day for the managerless Magpies.

It is a funny time for Newcastle," he has said.

"As a Geordie myself, I don't really like to see them getting beaten like that.

"They are having a hard time but they are a good-enough club and have good enough people around them to bounce back."

"It is great to see the goals flying in. You can't play like that every week but as long as we are trying to do that we will win a lot of games," he added.

"When it does click, any team will struggle to cope with us."
