However, the England international midfielder, who has been troubled with a foot injury that he sustained during the Liverpool match in September, scored the second goal in the 4-3 win against Phil Brown's side at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"It's great to be back, I really enjoyed it and it was nice to score and get off the mark for the season," Carrick told MUTV.

"It's the longest I've played in about three months so hopefully that'll get my fitness up and ready for the coming weeks."

Carrick completed 72 minutes against The Tigers before being replaced by Ryan Giggs.
