Roy’s agent Francis Martin, "We have put a new proposal to the club and now we are waiting for their response. It has dragged on a little longer than we'd have hoped. But it has got to be right for all parties.

"He is not asking to be the highest paid player at the club; he just wants to be on a par with some of the senior players at the club. Roy is not being greedy and wanting anything out of the ordinary. We hope the club will come back with an improved offer.

"We will reach an agreement. Roy is really happy at United and I am sure a solution can be found. It will be resolved. Probably after Christmas and New Year, something will be sorted.

"It would be crazy to think that Roy wants to leave Manchester United. He wants to stay and he feels part of the first team now. His priority is to stay at Old Trafford."
