CHARLTON TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE COUNCIL

Charlton Chief Executive Peter Varney said: "We feel we're
being penalised because of the actions of other clubs' fans.
We'll take legal action against Greenwich Council to test
their ruling. The United game in question took place on
September last year but the notice was served three weeks
ago. We feel we've not been left enough time to react
properly."

A council spokesperson said: "We have an overriding
responsibility for safety in Greenwich, and we have been
monitoring crowd behaviour at home matches in various ways
including studying video footage.

"We have considerable evidence that the behaviour of
Manchester United supporters at last season's match between
the two clubs constituted a threat to public safety, and
have therefore served this notice."
