From the Guardian on Milan's participation in the European Cup:
Uefa has delayed until Wednesday a decision on whether to permit the Italian club to participate after they were found guilty of match-fixing in Serie A.

Milan will be included in the draw on a provisional basis because their points deduction from last season's total was reduced on appeal from 44 to 30, which meant they finished third in Serie A.

However, Uefa could still decide not to accept the entry of the six-times European champions. An emergency panel at European football's governing body met yesterday to consider the issue and it has requested further time.
Uefa explained in a statement:

"The panel took note of a report submitted by the Uefa chief disciplinary inspector on the question whether it would be appropriate, due to the particular circumstances, to admit AC Milan to the 2006-07 Uefa club competitions. Following this report, the emergency panel has decided to further examine whether to admit AC Milan. The panel shall then take the final decision . . . by August 2, 2006."
