CITY DROPPING LIKE A STONE

From The MEN’s report of Saturday’s game at the Riverside:

‘It is all a far cry from the heady eclipse of Manchester United two weeks ago when Keegan bullishly predicted City were capable of challenging for a place in Europe.

"We are where we deserve to be at the minute," reckoned the downcast City chief.

"We got what we deserved and that was nothing. Middlesbrough played the better football and I have no qualms about the result. Maybe we had a chance of getting back into the game at 2-1 but perhaps showed a bit of naivety to lose out the way we did.''

Keegan has made a plea for more money but he was in no mood to talk about the outcome of the meeting he had with the Blues board last Thursday.

"We are short of a lot of players and had some young kids with us but it's none of your (the Press) business,'' he snapped. You have to be what you are good at and speculate which you all seem to do so well. I just hope I get half the figures that you have been making up and then I'll be all right.''
