CITY TRIUMPHANT

From MEN:

‘Brian McClair's Under-19s failed to build on the improved form of recent weeks and went down to a disappointing 2-0 defeat.

United rarely looked at their best and produced few real chances of note, although Kalam Mooniaruck could have altered events had he done better with Colin Heath's cross early on, and David Poole went close on a couple of occasions in the first half.

Meanwhile, on another of United's Academy pitches, the Under-17s were also slipping to a 2-1 defeat’. United did manage to take the lead when Steven Hogg placed a 20th-minute header past Kasper Schmeichel in the City goal. Two second half goals from Jonathan D'Laryea and Paul Collins City gave City the points.

Karlito’s report from the forum:

Just seen Academy under-19s lose the derby 1-2, on MUTV. Casper Schmeical made some good saves. United better side 1st half, and led 1-0, but berties bossed 2nd half and won.

Among the crowd a certain blue Peter
Schmeichel, making his first return to United, and first trip to Carrington - he was most impressed and called it the best facility in world - something United have earned.’
