David Gill told last year’s meeting of plc shareholders that fans who complained about ticket prices rises had to live in the real world and that the plc couldn’t afford a price freeze.
How times change. As United’s share price heads south faster than Terry Venables reputation the extra money raised by last season’s price hike has been used as a bribe totalling £2.6 million pounds to stop institutional shareholders deserting the stock further.
Now IMUSA has come up with a wizard wheeze:
‘United is the only club in the country where season ticket holders pay more for their tickets than club members.,’ said an IMUSA spokesperson.
‘Season ticket holding OAPs only get a third off ticket prices for games but OAPs applying for match tickets on a game by game basis get 50% off. David Gill told the Fans’ Forum that the club could not afford the extra £120k it would cost to extend the 50% discount to season ticket holders.
The plc annual report shows that Martin Edwards salary package cost the club £120k last year how about showing him the door and using the money saved to fund a 50% discount for United’s OAP season ticket holders.’
