Cole scores winner for cup final `underdogs`

Cole struck home in the 69th minute to seal the win, completing a remarkable season transformation for the forward who had been frozen out at Old Trafford at the start of the season.

One of life's small irony's saw Cole net against a side managed by Glenn Hoddle, who during his time as England manager claimed Cole needed several chances to score a goal.

His current manager at Rovers Graeme Souness however was full of praise for the lad.

"He is a predator - in many ways he is like Ian Rush, who I played with," said Souness.

"Rush is a player who would play on the fringes of a game, but if he got half a chance he would cut your throat, and that is what Andy Cole does.

"All that nonsense about him needing four or five chances is a very easy thing for people to cast up time and time again.

"His track record would suggest he is a bloody good player, a top goalscorer, and he is up there with anybody you want to name."
