"The first time we met Juventus in the Champions League they beat us 1-0 home and away. But while the scorelines may suggest the games were close, in reality there was a huge gulf between us.

"By the time we beat them in 1999 we had improved to the extent that I thought we were better than them. We were 2-0 down after 20 minutes, but we came back to produce what I think was our best-ever perfortainly it was Roy Keane's best performance for us, given the circumstances. It was his selfless approach after the booking that epitomised the man he is.

"He scored a goal to get us back in it and was a real leader for us. He really distinguished himself that night and I know deep down it affected him. Hopefully we can put that right this season."
