From The Times:

Racehorse owners John Magnier and JP McManus are reported to be preparing to sell their stake in Manchester United.

The 10.37% stake, held through their Cubic Expression investment arm, is valued at nearly £40m.

It is understood that financiers working for the two entrepreneurs have been sounding out potential bidders for the club, who might be interested in their stake. The attempt to sell the stake comes after a professional rift between the two entrepreneurs and Sir Alex Ferguson, the club’s manager.

Mr McManus, the legendary horse racing fanatic, and Mr Magnier were disappointed last summer when the club paid £29 million for Rio Ferdinand, the centre-half, from Leeds United.

One source said: "Leeds United was a forced seller and Manchester United paid too much. They overpaid by between £10 million and £15 million."
