Could Manchester Uniteds Wayne Rooney be heading to Arsenal

The biggest name at Old Trafford has decided to step down at the end of the current season and Manchester United?s new manager might struggle to wield a firm grip over players and club alike and sustain success consistently like Ferguson did so admirably during his time at the club. Wayne Rooney, who has reportedly fallen out of Sir Alex?s favour, might no longer be playing at United next season given that he has been consistently overlooked for important matches recently and if a player of his calibre is no longer considered for crunch games, it might be the clearest indication to him that his skills are no longer needed and he might have to find new pastures to ply his trade.

Arsene Wenger could get back what he lost in the form of van Persie?s transfer by making a move for Rooney. He could be the perfect piece to complete Arsenal?s puzzle and could help the club?s continued awful finishing in front of the goal. A perennial goal threat and a fear to defenders, Rooney could effortlessly link up with Arsenal?s brilliant and formidable mid-field in Cazorla, Wilshere and Ramsey. Rooney?s presence could also create space for Arsenal up front by hogging the opposition?s defense and setting up numerous scoring opportunities.

With van Persie currently leading United?s frontline and scoring goal with ease and aplomb, and the youngsters Welbeck and Hernandez waiting in his wings, United?s striker prospects look great. If the speculated arrival of Lewandowski or Falcao next season is also confirmed, it would start a transition for the club from the Rooney days. And considering United?s latest performances, Rooney has become expendable as the club continues to prosper without significant contributions from his so far this season.

Since the days of Henry?s departure, Arsenal have been sorely missing a presence of his stature at the front, a player who could torment defenders and score crucial goals. Rooney could be a suitable answer to Wenger?s troubles and if he could manage to swoop in and make move for the United star, it could indeed be the signing of the season. Most importantly, it could also spell the beginning of the end for Arsenal mediocrity.
