CRISIS? WHAT CRISIS?

“We are not where we would like to be in the league just now
but we have an FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday and a
Champions League match on Tuesday which we need to win to
reach the quarter-finals. There is still an awful lot to
fight for and there is no reason for people to be getting
too downhearted or giving up at this stage.

“Manchester United gets measured by the very high standards
it has set over the last 14 years but we are nowhere near a
crisis situation just yet. Arsenal are unbeaten in 27 league
matches this season - that is a ridiculous run and one no-
one could account for. If you throw a couple of defeats into
that equation, which would have been the norm in most years,
we would only be three points behind.

“They have been outstanding this season and everyone would
acknowledge that. They haven't hit a sticky patch yet and if
they don't they deserve to win the league. Obviously I don't
know whether they will slip up or not but what we have to do
is perform to our capabilities and make sure we are in a
position to capitalise from any mistakes.

“The worst thing that could happen now is for Arsenal to
drop points and us not to be there to take advantage.”

Neville is gutted at his suspension, as he wants to be a
part of the side during this difficult period:

“I am annoyed with myself because I want to be out there
helping the lads and at the moment I feel helpless. But we
are still strong enough to cope with the situation because
we don't have a ridiculous amount of injuries. What we must
do is start performing to our capabilities because we
haven't played well recently. People will put it down to the
defending since Rio's suspension started but I think it's
down to basic performance levels.

“In the first game against Porto, we didn't keep the ball.
The pass and move game we are normally so good at broke
down. It's the biggest part of our game and if we don't do
it, we come to a standstill. There have been times when we
have defended poorly but we defend as a team and we attack
as a team. Criticism has been heaped on certain people and
that is wrong.”
