Cristiano Ronaldo claims Portugal in their 'rightful place' after World Cup qualification

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his delight after Portugal sealed their spot at the 2022 World Cup.

The Selecao finished second in their qualifying group and needed to win two play-off games in order to secure a place in the finals, and navigated them with little hassle with back-to-back victories over Turkey and then North Macedonia.

A brace from Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes secured a 2-0 win over the latter on Tuesday night, with Portugal succeeding where European champions Italy failed and knocking the minnows out.

Ronaldo, who assisted Fernandes' first of the evening, revelled in Portugal's qualification on Instagram, claiming that his country were back in their 'rightful place' by landing a spot in Qatar.

"Goal achieved, we’re at the Qatar World Cup, we’re in our rightful place!" Ronaldo said.

"Thank you to all the Portuguese for the tireless support! Forca Portugal!"
