Cristiano Ronaldo insists 'the season is just beginning'

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a pledge to Portugal fans that the season is 'just beginning' following their strong start to their Nations League campaign.

The Selecao were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Spain last week, but La Roja endured another stalemate with the Czech Republic on Sunday and Portugal took advantage with a 4-0 thrashing of Switzerland.

Ronaldo scored twice in that game to extend his record as men's international football's greatest ever scorer, notching home his 116th and 117th goals at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Taking to Instagram to celebrate the victory, Ronaldo was optimistic about Portugal's Nations League campaign and their run up to this winter's World Cup.

"A very important victory in our journey, a lot of pride and confidence in this group, a lot of strength to give the Portuguese what we so desire: victories and convincing performances. It looks like the season is about to end, but really… this is just beginning!" Ronaldo wrote.

Man Utd recorded their lowest points tally since the Premier League's inauguration in 1992, though Ronaldo managed to score 24 goals in 38 games across all competitions and was recently singled out by captain Harry Maguire as the only player to meet standards last season.
