Cristiano Ronaldo 'to be fined £1m' by Man Utd for rogue interview - reports

Manchester United are set to fine Cristiano Ronaldo £1m following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo intensely criticised the club, manager Erik ten Hag, former interim boss Ralf Rangnick and even ex-teammate Wayne Rooney in a sit-down discussion which aired on Sunday night.

90min understands that Man Utd are furious with Ronaldo's conduct having believed that he and Ten Hag were on 'decent' terms, with the Glazer family urging CEO Richard Arnold to solve the situation.

According to Metro, Ronaldo is in line to be fined £1m - roughly two weeks' wages - as part of his punishment. He has already been fined a similar amount earlier this season after he refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham, leaving the stadium before full-time in the process.

Ronaldo asked to leave Man Utd in the summer after they failed to qualify for the Champions League at the end of last season, but he was short of suitors and so remained with the Red Devils.

He has been used sparingly by Ten Hag so far this term, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial preferred up top.

The 37-year-old has missed Man Utd's last two games through illness and will now join up with Portugal ahead of their World Cup campaign in Qatar.
