Cristiano Ronaldo's insane goal numbers compared to Man Utd players since 2009

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 551 club goals since he left Manchester United as the world’s most expensive player in 2009, way out ahead of any United player during that time.

That incredible number highlights just how insanely good he has been over a prolonged period. Now that a deal has been agreed for his return, even at the age of 36, United fans cannot wait to see him back among the goals in the famous red shirts.

Over 12 years, spent at Real Madrid and Juventus between the age of 24 and 36 it is an average of 45.9 goals per season. Performance longevity is the hardest thing, but Ronaldo has mastered it.

United lost something enormous when he left for Madrid all those years ago and have been in stages of transition for much of that time, especially since 2013.

To put it into context, the most goals any player has scored for United since 2009 is 156. That tally belongs to Wayne Rooney, who is the club’s all-time top scorer and was spread over eight years between 2009 and 2017 at an average of 19.5 goals per season.

That is still a very impressive return over close to a decade, but it is still even close to Ronaldo and only serves to highlight just how immense the Portuguese icon’s numbers are.

After Rooney, the next most goals from a United player since 2009 is Marcus Rashford, who has scored 88 times for the club in all competitions since making his debut in 2016.

The inconsistent Anthony Martial has scored 78 goals since he arrived in 2015, with his season tallies ranging from a very poor seven at the low to a much more respectable 23 at the higher end. Sadly for him, the 23, achieved in 2019/20, is the anomaly on his United record.

Javier Hernandez scored 59 goals between 2010 and 2014 in his relatively brief career in Manchester, while Robin van Persie scored 58 between 2012 and 2015.

Not a striker or forward, Juan Mata has been at United for seven and a half years and has scored 51. Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, has only been at the club for 18 months and has already scored 43.

Combined, Rooney, Rashford, Martial, Hernandez, Van Persie, Mata and Fernandes have scored 533 goals between them for United since Ronaldo left in 2009. That is still fewer than Ronaldo himself.
