CUP FINAL TIME

Fergie:

"The last time we went two years without winning a trophy was 1989 and
doing it again is not something I want to think about. This is a piece of
silverware and we want to win it.

"I have always said that Manchester United against Liverpool is the biggest
game for both clubs. It is not so much passion as importance. We have had
some great games against them in the past and Sunday might be another.

"When I came down to England, Liverpool were the side who dominated and
they were the target. Just like Manchester, their city is driven by football. We
are only 25 miles apart and any game against them is an emotional and
intense occasion.

"Sunday won't be any different, it should be an engrossing game and
hopefully we will get the result we want."

Giggs:

"Cup finals are always nice to look forward to, no matter what's happening.
"With a few months left of the season it would be nice to win something, and
be able to play for the rest of the season knowing you've already got a trophy
in the bag.

"I don't think that form or the last few meetings really matter in a Cup final.
The rivalry is massive - they're our biggest rivals - and it's a massive game for
both clubs. You'd like to win something with a few months left of the season
and I think we both realise that.

"I'd love to be playing in Cardiff. It's where I was born and it's a great stadium
in a great setting. I'm yet to play in a Cup final there - we had the Charity
Shield there and I've played there for Wales - but it would be nice to play there
in a Cup final."

Butt:

"Cardiff as a venue is brilliant.

"We've played there once or twice and the atmosphere is amazing. I'm really
looking forward to playing there. The good thing about Wembley was the
history, but in terms of seats, the pitch and the roof Cardiff is second to none.

"The atmosphere with the roof on is brilliant.

"I wouldn't say it's important to win to complete our medal collections, but it's
important as it's a final we want to win," he told the official site.

"There's a trophy up for grabs, and be it the FA Cup, the Worthington Cup, the
Premiership or the European Cup they're all good accolades to have.

"If you can get to a final you've got to try to win it. It would be nice to have a
complete collection when we finish, though.

"We've not had any finals for the last few years so we're all looking forward to
it. It's got the added spice of being against Liverpool, so it should be good.

"Every final you play in is a one-off game, and it doesn't matter who you play
against - you want to win it. There's a trophy on the line so every will want to
win.

"We didn't win anything last year, and to win something can be a good step up
the ladder for the rest of the season. Liverpool showed that a few seasons
ago when they won four trophies.

"Winning gives you confidence, and confidence breeds itself. If we can win on
Sunday we can go on from there and it would give us a great platform for us
to move on from.

"We've started fielding a stronger team over the last couple of years, as have
other clubs, so I'm not really surprised that we've got to the final

"It's the biggest rivalry for us. The Scousers are very much like Mancunians -
we're just down the road - and the rivalry is as good as the City and United
rivalry.

"All the players have got their jobs to do - whether it be in midfield, defence or
attack. We've got to cancel out their forwards - they can score goals - but they
can defend well too. There will be challenges all over the pitch and we have to
make sure we're up for it. We need nine or ten good performances to win it."

Beckham:

"It is a massive game and we know how much it means to the players and the
fans. You always want to be involved in the big games but United v Liverpool
is an exceptional case. We know how important these games are. It was vital
we put on a good performance in Turin coming off the Bolton game. We got
back to winning ways, played well and the confidence is high."

The players are confident, how about you?
