'Steven Gerrard looks certain to miss England's World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Azerbaijan next month after suffering a suspected fracture of his left foot during Liverpool's defeat at Manchester United. He is likely to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
"Xabi Alonso passed the ball to me, I tried to turn, got my foot stuck and felt a crack," said the Liverpool midfielder, on crutches last night. "I'll have an x-ray tomorrow but it could be a broken metatarsal. I'm trying to be positive now but I'll be devastated if that's the case."
If confirmed, it will be the fourth such injury suffered by an England player in the past 30 months, following David Beckham, Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney.'
