David de Gea: Man Utd were 'a disgrace' in Everton loss

David de Gea has claimed that Manchester United's abysmal showing in their 1-0 defeat at Everton was 'a disgrace'.

The visitors failed to capitalise on their early pressure and fell behind to a strike from Anthony Gordon which deflected off of Harry Maguire.

United fail to truly trouble Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal, and opposite number De Gea has blasted his side's performance.

"It is a disgrace from us, we should be winning this game," De Gea said post-match.

"We don’t score but we don’t create proper chances to score. We are not good enough, that is for sure. It will be difficult to be in the top four."

He added: "[Everton] played Wednesday and they were tired but they had more desire than us, that is not acceptable. Very sad to lose today."

This is not the first time this season that De Gea has fronted up to the press after a humiliating result for Man Utd, regularly putting on a brave face and taking the immediate fall for his teammates.

The Spaniard was largely untested at Goodison Park too, though did make a smart save to keep Everton from adding a second goal late in the first half.

United remain seventh in the Premier League table and their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League look increasingly slim.

They return to action next Saturday when they welcome basement club Norwich to Old Trafford.
