From MEN:

Manchester United are convinced their link with high-profile, global partners will help see off the new money being injected into Chelsea and Liverpool.

"We are obsessed with being a profitable commercial enterprise so that we can have a sustainable, successful football team," he said.

"We are not ashamed of that and our fans shouldn't be either because we are building a successful business that doesn't require huge cash injections every few years. We are a global club with a strong foundation. Look at the cash we are generating and the profits we are making."

The Evening News claims; the 'club's desire to enhance their global image was one of the major reasons why the competing teams in the inaugural Vodafone Cup are drawn from Asia and South America.'

Rather than bring in traditional foes from Italy and Spain, top Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds and Argentina's world club champions Boca Juniors will be on show at Old Trafford on August 3 and 5.

"We purposely wanted it to be a global tournament," said Anson.

"The aim is to build brand awareness throughout the world and the Vodafone Cup is the perfect way to achieve that aim.

"Japanese TV companies are already tussling to buy the rights for the games against Uwara and that can only be good for Manchester United."

Responding to IMUSA's accusations that the club only wants to exploit supporters' loyalty he said:

"Our aim is to make supporters feel excited not exploited. We don't them to feel alienated. I want the supporters to feel the club is taking care of them. We want to have a successful two-way relationship with them. It is not going to happen tomorrow but it is one of our stated aims."
