DIDN'T THEY DO WELL?

After treating Germany to an incessant inane dirge of “Ten German bombers…” for the past three weeks it bizarrely seems in some quarters that England fans are worthy of praise. From the Mirror:

FA boss Brian Barwick last night thanked England's army of fans for their support and apologised for not rewarding them with the World Cup.

The FA chief executive believes the good behaviour of England's 80,000- strong travelling contingent will change their image as trouble-makers.

And Barwick said his only regret was Sven Goran Eriksson's side failed to win the tournament. "We all desperately wanted to bring that trophy home to reward the supporters.

"We are all so disappointed that we couldn't deliver the success they, and the millions watching at home, deserved.

"But the fans should be so proud of themselves. Their vibrant, passionate, colourful and committed support made a massive contribution to each England game and the whole tournament.”
