Manchester United are close to tying up a £40million shirt sponsorship deal with Korean electronic giants LG.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have been scouring the world for a new front line sponsor after Vodafone announced they were ending their relationship with the club.

United have been searching for a £15 million-a-year deal and have been linked with Mansion, an international gambling exchange, and Etihad, an airline based in the United Arab Emirates.

LG Electronics originally appeared on the football scene as Leicester City's sponsors when the Midlands club was in the Premiership. Since then they have expanded into other sports such as cricket. But in recent weeks LG officials have been assessing the best football club to engage with.
