Manchester United's Premiership clash with Arsenal, at Old Trafford on Sunday, will be refereed by Steve Bennett, the official involved in the Community Shield game when Francis Jeffers was dismissed and Sol Campbell later charged with violent conduct, a case that has yet to be heard. The Premier League confirmed yesterday that Bennett would be in charge of the early-season meeting between the two of the chief contenders for the title. While Arsenal would be reluctant to criticise the appointment publicly, privately they will be surprised at the decision.
