All the usual suspects, O'Neil, Mourinho, Strachan, Maclaren, Ranieri, Dalglish and Curbishley:

Charlton Athletic chief executive Peter Varney hopes the transfer fund at The Valley generated by Scott Parker's sale to Chelsea will persuade Alan Curbishley to stay in Sarff Landun.

"When a manager leaves, obviously it seems to be Alan Curbishley is one of the first names they turn to," he told Sky Sports News. "The situation is he signed a three-year contract at the beginning of the year. He's happy here and has got a bigger transfer budget than any Charlton manager has ever had so why would he want to leave?"

Alex Ferguson added his sympathies to Houllier's demise.

"Liverpool were the top team in the country. They were the motivation for me. Everybody views their motivation differently. My target was obvious, Liverpool had enjoyed such success in the Eighties. I suppose Gerard had the sort of task I had when I had to break the mould of the success at Anfield," he added.
