"The fans have been fantastic. Sometimes in situations like we were in you think the fans could have helped you more," said Keegan, which must be a different Kevin Keegan who slagged off the same fans for booing his team from the pitch a couple of months ago.

He goes on:

"But our fans could not have done any more to help us, the have been excellent. They could have been more down on us at times. They could have been more against us at times when you consider some of the performances that we have produced, but they have been fantastic with us."

But what about strengthening the squad:

"There is far more in this football club than finishing fourth from bottom. There is far more potential, far more ability so that is the challenge. We have set a low bench mark for next season and I will be looking for a big improvement."

"I have already started looking to next season. In the next week I hope to sign two players," revealed the boss. They will either be very small fees or Bosmans but players who we believe can take the club forward. The scout Graham Carr is with us this week discussing matters. We are restricted because we have been told we have no money."
