DOOM – FERGOZ'S REACTION

Our assistant manager sums up the match on Pravda.com:

"It was a difficult game and a very scrappy affair. The pitch didn't help either side and it was difficult to get the ball down and play passes. We're obviously not in the best of form at the moment but we're going to have to fight our way through this. No-one's going to help us in that respect, we have to help ourselves. In these situations what we don't want to do is feel sorry for ourselves. I don't think we deserved to lose but we have. We must now re-group and make sure we win our next two European games at home to Villarreal and away to Benfica. Those matches are going to be vital to us.

"Villarreal are top of the group and the home match with them is going to be very important. Our home form over the years has been terrific and we have to make sure that's the case when we play them.

"It is a concern but our goalscoring hasn't been great [all round] this season or last. Most of the time we do make chances but we've missed a lot in some of our league games this season. Nevertheless, we have the players who can score and hopefully we can get that magic back.

"They tried their best but losing a goal when they were just starting to get to grips with the game was a blow. Our possession was better in the second half and we spent most of the second period in their half. But we didn't get that breakthrough. We hit the bar from a corner and Ji-sung Park was unlucky to get his shirt pulled when he was through on goal.

"When you lose games your confidence does get affected but we have to pull ourselves through this. This is a period in which our best form is not there, but that can change simply because human beings change. They gather themselves together and show their determination to put things right and hopefully their character is revealed properly on the football field.

"Well the pitch at Old Trafford is far superior to the one we've had to play on against Lille but are passing should still be much better. It won't be an easy game simply because Chelsea have been in outstanding form and they're top of the league on merit. But we have the ability to change that and we'll need a top performance.

"The most important it would do is bring the confidence back into the team and it would get us back into the winning habit again."
