DRUNKEN DUNPHY UPDATE

'He was the man who helped fuel the biggest tragedy in Ireland since the spud shortage in 1848. Now the former Millwall [and United reserve} player turned football commentator, pundit and friends of the stars has himself become history after being suspended from Irish TV for being drunk on the job.

Eamon Dunphy arrived at work on Sunday morning to provide his usual outrageous offsides about the World Cup as usual. Alas he had lifted his self-imposed booze ban the night before and was still, as they say in Ireland, blotto.

His usual sure-fire pre-match analysis was replaced by slurred slurry and soon afterwards he was driven home by colleagues. Dunphy, who is Roy Keane's official biographer and a strident critic of manager Mick McCarthy, has been the scourge of the Irish team - he went on air to declare he was supporting Cameroon in Ireland's first game.

Today, a sobered up Dunphy admitted he was "tired and emotional" but is smarting at the way he has been treated after a 25-year career with RTE, declaring he won't be doing another World Cup for Irish TV. "I might do Iraqi TV," he said. Book him now.'
