Ed Woodward discussing new consultancy role at Man Utd

Ed Woodward is in talks to extend his stay at Manchester United by taking on a new consultancy role.

Woodward has been executive vice-chairman at Old Trafford for eight controversial years but is set to step down in December, having submitted his resignation in the wake of the failed Super League plan.

A lot of fans were excited to see him prepare to leave, with many blaming him for a lot of the club's poor business in recent times, but according to the Daily Mail, United aren't ready to let him go just yet.

Discussions are ongoing over a transition to a consultancy role, which would not give Woodward the same power he enjoys now but would still afford him significant influence over the Red Devils' business both on and off the pitch.

However, whether he would be a full-time employee or simply available for a phone call every once in a while is not yet clear.

United are still yet to name Woodward's successor in the boardroom. Plenty of rumours have revolved around current managing director Richard Arnold, but nothing concrete has come out just yet.

One of Woodward's final jobs in his current role has been to discuss the future of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose position has been under immense threat in recent weeks following abysmal defeats to both Liverpool and Manchester City.

ESPN state that the executive vice-chairman held talks with Solskjaer over the weekend in the aftermath of the 2-0 loss to City, in which he is believed to have made it clear that the boss' position is not in immediate danger.

The manager accepts his job is under threat after some poor results but, like Woodward, still remains hopeful of turning things around.
