At the press conference called to announce the England quad Eriksson was asked if he had considered leaving the England manager’s job when Crozier resigned:

"I have never had any real wishes to leave but if they wanted to change too many things in my job, of course. I want to be a free man, I want to report to one man not two, three, four or five if I have a problem. If I want to play a friendly against this team or that team I need one person to say yes or no."

Beckham, Scholes, Butt, Gary Neville and Ferdinand have been called up to the England squad.

There was also a place for Jonathan Greening.
