Erik ten Hag reveals he rejected 'better' offers before joining Man Utd

Erik ten Hag has admitted that he rejected 'better' offers before deciding to take over at Manchester United.

The Ajax boss will formally replace interim manager Ralf Rangnick in the dugout at the end of the season - but he has already travelled to the United Kingdom to begin work turning the club's fortunes around.

United are currently at the lowest ebb of their modern era. They have failed to secure Champions League football or lift any silverware this season and are also set to record their lowest ever Premier League points tally.

Speaking to De Telegraaf recently, Ten Hag did not deflect from the size of the task at hand, also revealing that he rejected other job offers to instead take control at Old Trafford.

"I had choices to work at a different club, with a better foundation," he said. "But I chose Man Utd. Things have to get addressed there and that’s a challenge. The club and I are on the same wavelength about how I want to do this."

Listen now to 90min's Manchester United podcast, The Promised Land, with Scott Saunders & Rob Blanchette. On this week's show they discuss the latest news surrounding the club including a discussion regarding Ten Hag's arrival and his Ronaldo hint.

One of Ten Hag's first tasks as United manager will be meeting Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been linked with a move away from the club recently.

The incoming boss has publicly called Ronaldo a 'giant' and insisted that he is excited to work with the legendary forward.
