Erik ten Hag reveals worrying reason for dropping Marcus Rashford

Erik ten Hag has admitted Marcus Rashford has been dropped for Manchester United's trip to Wolves on New Year's Eve for disciplinary reasons.

Rashford grabbed a goal and assist in United's 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest earlier this week as the Red Devils made the perfect start to the second half of the Premier League campaign.

The forward's redemption arc has been one of the more uplifting stories of United's season so far following a dismal 2021/22 campaign.

However, Rashford was surprisingly named on the bench for Saturday's clash with Wolves, with Alejandro Garnacho coming into the side in his place.

When asked by BT Sport prior to the match why Rashford had been dropped, Ten Hag replied: "Internal disciplinary."

Rashford has started 14 of United's 15 Premier League games so far this season, contributing five goals and three assists.

He is the Red Devils' top scorer this term, with ten goals in all competitions. Anthony Martial ranks in second with half that tally.

United will leapfrog Tottenham into fourth place should they win at Wolves ahead of Spurs' match against Aston Villa on New Year's Day.

Ten Hag's men return to Old Trafford on Tuesday against Bournemouth.
