"I met Paul Scholes once a couple of months ago at Old Trafford before a game and I asked him if he had changed his mind and he said no.

"I don't think he will come back. Maybe I will try again but not before the two games coming up with Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.

"I have to say we miss Paul Scholes because he is a very good football player but when we meet up, now for nine days and hopefully at the World Cup for five or six weeks, you want to have a happy player.

"If he is not happy, he will not perform as good as he could do. That is why I am not phoning him every week and going on my knees asking him to come back."
