Juventus lost away at Palermo on Saturday and AC Milan took advantage with a last gasp 2-1 victory over Lazio on Sunday. Lazio took the lead but an Andriy Shevchenko free kick levelled the score with twenty minutes to go and Hernan Crespo grabbed the winner in stoppage time. Two weeks ago Juve were pulling away at the top of Serie A but Juve's lead has now been slashed to just two points.

In Spain Athletico Madrid helped themselves to a 2-0 away win at Barcelona. Fernando Torres scored both of Athletico's goals and Ronaldinho missed a penalty as Barca slipped to their first home defeat of the season. Real beat Barcelona's Espanyol 4-0 on Saturday and Athletico's victory has helped their own city neighbours close the gap at the top of La Liga to four points.

Real are now nine points clear of champions Valencia, who were held to a 3-3 draw by Real Sociedad at the weekend.
