From the MEN:

United have completed the signing of French defender Patrice Evra. The 24-year-old has come through his medical and signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Old Trafford outfit.

United are thought to have paid Monaco around £5million for the player, who should now go straight into Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad for Wednesday night’s Carling Cup tie with Blackburn at Ewood Park.

Fergie:

“He is a good age and he is still developing as a player, which is always exciting. We have been monitoring him all season and it is fantastic that he is joining Manchester United.”

Evra, who will wear the No.3 shirt, said:

“I had opportunities to leave Monaco but I was not very keen to talk with Arsenal, Liverpool or Real Madrid. They all talked with my agent in the past two seasons.

“I had contact with Inter Milan last summer. But, to me, it was over. As I said to the Monaco officials, I only wanted to hear about Manchester United - not about Inter Milan."
