FANS VOTE = POPULARITY CONTEST FOR IDIOTS

While his performance against Fenerbahce was impressive, he has hardly set the world alight since. While this is not criticism, he needs time to find his feet and fitness after all, to laud him as the best player in the country this October is nothing short of ridiculous. Fan votes and phone ins really don’t do our image any favours do they? As events across the pond have demonstrated recently, democracy is often wasted on idiots.

United's Wayne Rooney has been voted October's PFA player of the month by fans.

‘Following his stunning debut against Fenerbahce, the 19-year-old forward made three starts and one substitute appearance for the Reds - including a goalscoring birthday appearance against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

’Quoted on the PFA website, Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I think everyone has seen what potential the boy has. We want to develop him, and that's going to take time. It's a great start for him. That's why we signed him as he's got great potential.

’"I think he can only get stronger. The important thing, for me as a coach, is to allow the boy to develop naturally without too much public attention. I want him to be as ordinary as he can."’
