HEADLINE - UNITED AGAINST THE MONEY MEN

When disaffected hard core Manchester United fans formed FC United in protest at the takeover of the club by Malcolm Glazer, the cynics said the venture was doomed to failure.

Well, on Monday the club drew a record crowd of 4,328 for their North West Counties League Division Two clash with Winsford at Gigg Lane. That meant FC United now have an average attendance of 2,897.

They won the game 2-1 and are already better supported than league sides like Rochdale, Barnet, Torquay, Bury and Macclesfield.

That growing enthusiasm proves many football fans are tired of the rampant commercialism throttling the game. FC United are worth supporting. The next home game is against Darwen at Gigg Lane on Saturday. If you can, get along.
