FEAR FACTOR

From the Sun:

Roy Keane signed on as Sunderland manager last night and chairman Niall Quinn told his players: “I hope you're scared.”

Keane's presence in the stands inspired the Black Cats to a 2-0 win over West Brom — their first points of the season — that lifted them off the bottom of the Championship.

It was Quinn's last game as manager before he ‘sacks' himself.

And he insisted ex-Manchester United skipper Keane, who signed a three-year deal, is the man to bring glory to Wearside.

Quinn said:

“I hope the players are scared of him so they will give it their all in training. The demands on a player at a club like Sunderland are big anyway. It's a very, very demanding place.

“They know they will have new standards. All those standards will lift now.

“We feel so fortunate to have got Roy — he's a world-class attraction. People are shaking their heads wondering how we pulled it off and I'm feeling a bit like that. But it's happening and it's great.

“When Roy was introduced to the players you could almost see them standing an inch or two taller thinking ‘I'm going to be working with that man'. That's incredible.”
