FERDINAND UPDATE

From The Mirror:

United will make their £30m move for Rio Ferdinand within the next fortnight - and are confident they will land their No1 target.

United had an initial approach for Ferdinand, 23, rejected, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson has told his board the England World Cup defender has to be the club's top priority.

The Old Trafford giants are convinced Ferdinand will press to move there, rather than stay at Leeds, join Arsenal or move to Italy or Spain.

United earmarked £40m for two defenders - Ferdinand, and £15m Lilian Thuram, the Juventus and France star, but the Thuram deal was left in doubt as fears grew Ferdinand could cost up to £40m.

And from The Guardian:

Ferdinand's agent, Pini Zahavi, is due to meet Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale on Monday to discuss the player's future in Yorkshire. And a move away from Leeds remains a realistic outcome for the prized former West Ham star.

The fresh reports claim Arsenal could make a bid in the region of £30million for the London-born centre-back as soon as next week.
