FERGIE – I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A DEFENDER

Sir Alex Ferguson:

"'We did have the opportunity to bring a defender in, but
hindsight is a fine thing. At that point (during the
transfer window) we were still hoping to get an early appeal
for Rio Ferdinand but it has taken more than two months.

"We also didn't anticipate the ban would be that long.
Losing Ferdinand was a bad one. Gary Neville got a thigh
injury then was suspended so you are changing your back four
all the time.

"Quinton had a cartilage operation on Friday night so we are
a bit depleted at the back which is not the best position.
We could have brought a defender in but we have plenty of
attacking options and we will need to do that."
