"I had a meeting with David about the incident. He really didn't think he had done anything wrong at the time.

"I believe there was no intent on David's part and that it was simply a clumsy challenge. The fact the FA decided not to do anything about it confirms my opinion."

Meanwhile Keane has been given an additional 48 hours to respond to the FA's two charges of bringing the game into disrepute:

"Further to requests from Roy Keane, the Football Association can confirm it has agreed a 48-hour extension to the deadline," The FA said in a statement.
