The Scottish Herald reports:

‘They have become two of the most successful Scottish sports exports in England and now Sir Alex Ferguson and Mark Johnston have got together as owner and trainer.

'Ferguson, arguably the most famous manager in the world after his exploits with Manchester United, and Johnston, one of the most successful racing trainers in Europe, have known each other for some time, but now Ferguson has a horse in training with the Middleham maestro.

‘"He has got a two-year-old with us called Against The Grain," said the trainer's wife, Deirdre. "He owns it with a few friends. It is very exciting. We have known him for quite a long time. We met through a mutual friend, and we go every year to Manchester United." Johnston bought Against The Grain, a Pivotal half-brother to US Grade 2 winner Devious Boy, as a yearling for 45,000 guineas at Tattersalls last October.’
